PAULETTE JOY AIKMAN

I am very sorry to have to break the news to all that Paulette Aikman sadly died on the morning of Wednesday 30th September, after a short battle against cancer.
For me, my family and those close to us, this has come as a terrible and unending shock. Paulette was enjoying life to the full and as illness took hold rapidly, we were unable to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in New York as planned. We had so many hopes for shared future times together.
If you have ever visited Belgium or London in the last 10 years, you are likely to have met Paulette. She lit up the room and you came away feeling that you had met the kindest, friendliest and most generous person there.
We all miss her.

Timing really is so important. I don't get over to Europe as much as I'd like, and more seldom still can I attend trans-Atlantic BBB events. But a few years ago I did have an opportunity, I went to visit my brother and see Roger Waters. There was no BBB event, so one was whipped up! It became my first and last chance to get to know John White, so that pub crawl is one I hold in particular value. Thom was there, but Paulette was not able to joining us.
This passed March was the first big Belgium weekend that Anne and I made it over since the very first, how fortunate I feel that we did pull it off and that Paulette was there. Anne also spent a good deal of time getting to know her at Alvinne, which became our last chance to acquaint ourselves with Thom's delightful wife. I can't really imagine what happens in a heart that had been filled with such light for 20 years when that light is extinguished. The only woefully inadequate words I can offer - as they are all woefully inadequte - are those to express my sorrow for your loss Thom. I wish I could do more then help with the fight against the condition that took her, but it is my honor to offer that small gesture.
