Saison blend
For the heck of it, I decided to make a Saison yeast blend with the following 5 yeasts: WY3711 Fr. Saison, 3726 Farmhouse, Brewtek CL380 Saison, Fantome La Dalmatienne (yeast only), and Ellezellesois saisis.

Before I make a larger starter, would this blend interest anyone? A small tube could be sent out in a couple of weeks. BPotts has already volunteered to be the first "test subject". :)

Re: Saison blend
AL...I am SUPER interested. I am going to be doing Saisons pretty much for the rest of the summer aside from a few other recipes that I have had set to go for some time now. I'd love to experiment with something like that.<<>>

Re: Saison blend
OK.

I'm off to DC for a food+beer tasting (SAVOR) this weekend. I'll start 'er up next week, I'll send approximately, I dunno, 30ml of slurry or so in a sterile tube. I don't have any small cold packs I don't think, so you'll need to make a starter (I'm sure you would do that, I just wanted to mention it)......IF you want or need a cold pack, I'll have to figure something out......or send me a beer with a cold pack, and I'll return it (cold pack, that is)! :D

I believe I have most of yer address's from the bugfarm give away, will need tankdeer's - alan.x.buck@gsk.com (work).

If I remember, I'll do a plate count on the slurry for an approximation of CFU/ml. The slurry will be about 20% of each yeast strain (equal numbers).

Re: Saison blend
So.....people's plans??

I know I'm going to do two basic saison's first (one with the blend, one with just farmhouse), ie. 90%pils/10%wheat and then add brett to next farmhouse saison, and maybe do another regular blend saison, and then a bretty one with that.

I think I'm going to need to purchase some more carboys.....

Actually....maybe for the grand finale I'll innoculate Al's saison blend with Al's bugfarm...a tribute to Al's great work!

Re: Saison blend
I'm ordering another sack of Castle Belg Pils tomorrow to get ready for a Saisonathon. Not sure exactly what I'm going to do for my variations as of yet. I know I'll be playing with some brett and a little bit of spice on a few of them. I might try to do something in the spirit of the fantome chocolat.

The blend is just about ready for shipment....some might be shipped out as early as tomorrow, the rest next week for sure (or until I receive ice packs from those who want 'em packed that way).

Re: Saison blend
Most of the slurries went out yesterday - look for it 2-3 days for East coast, 3-4 on the West. I would make a starter to check. Any problems, don't hesitate to let me know. (Cisco, Ross, and Scott will be next).
