Hi! Nick,
You sounded like you enjoyed the town, did you get to any of the following in Nieuwpoort?
Phénix Cafe Au Blason - Albert I laan 221
Open daily from 10.00hr till late. Corner cafe, speciality of the house is escargots. 64 beers on the menu including Boon Kriek, Duvel Tripel Hop, a few from St Bernardus and Halve Maan and they have Bourgogne des Flandres on draught. Bit of an old fashioned menu in the sense that there is little from breweries of recent birth.
C-Port Lounge - Robert Orlentpromenade 21
Nearest tram stop Nieuwpoort Cardijnlaan. Open each day from 10.00hr until at least 22.00hr but closes early at 18.00hr on Mon. Amazing new cafe bar in a smart new development on the oud Haven front at Nieuwpoort. Sharp lounge that started in summer 2016. Lovely peaceful site with super views of expensive yachts in the marina. Started with an impressive beer menu of 118 choices including beers from Strubbe, Malheur, Gulden Spoor, Het Anker, St Bernardus, Halve Maan, Van Honsebrouck and the new brewery Meesters at Stasegem. Bound to win the 2016 prize for best view from a urinal in West Flanders.
Newport Times - Langestraat 64
Open Fri & Sat 19.00hr-01.00hr, but also open on some evenings too. A great addition to the Nieuwpoort beer scene. Small bar opened in 2013 but cleverly looks as though it has always been here. Themed on Nieuwpoort in the Great War, a particular interest of owner Bert Gunst, who organises walks through town on that theme. Decorated with photos of war personalities such as Tzar Nicholas II, Kaiser Wilhelm, King George V, King Albert of the Belgians and oddly HindenbUrg, Ludendorff and Falkenhayn. Plus of course local heros of the flooding of the Ijzer Hendrik Geeraerts and Veurne's Carel Kogge. Has a great beer menu of 49 well-picked beers including Ostend beer Keyte and is the public facing front for the beer firm that has its beers brewed at the excellent Deca (Hendrik Geeraerts and Carel Cogge). They now also have a new beer, Ensor, brewed at top pedigree Strubbe Brewery in nearby Ichtegem.
De Promenade - Lombardsijdestraat 7/G
Open from 10.00hr. Cafe with terrace one block from the sea front. Snacks & tapas served with a choice of 50 beers mainly from West Flemish regulars.
Bierhuis De Vismarkt - Albert I Laan 120
Tramstop Nieuwpoort Bad. Closed Mon, but open 7/7 during school holidays. Closed from 19.30hr on Sun evening. Long thin bar with modern decor. 90-100 beers, heavy on St Bernardus beers with obvious connections to the brewery. De Koninck, La Chouffe and St Bernardus 12 Abt on draught. Geuzes from Oud Beersel, 3 Fonteinen, Hanssens and Mort Subite. Good all round beer list including a range of 75cl bottles and vintage bottles. Full range of van Eecke, Rodenbach and Het Anker. Only nut type snacks by way of food, plus herring and smoked halibut. A must visit if you are in striking distance of Nieuwpoort Bad tram stop
