As you suggest Steve, it's not illegal to serve a minor at home in all states. Wisconsin provides an exception for drinking with parents or a spouse. Many other states have the same exception. You can still get in a lot of trouble if your kid then drives, but still I think many Americans would be surprised to know what the actual law is in their state.
